Borders Life looks at the work of Mary Somerville

Friday, 18 November 2016 09:34

Border Life this week pays tribute to one of Scotland's largely unsung heroes: Mary Somerville was the first person to be referred to as "a scientist" and her work led to the discovery of new planets and was used to design the earliest computer. Now she's one of the first women to appear on a Scottish banknote and will feature on the new plastic ten pound note issued next year. Sandy McCracken looks back on her life, while Fiona Armstrong meets the designer of the new note, and of course our own Jules Horne from Texthouse.
